FAQ

Are public sector banks covered by RTI?

Yes — SBI, PNB, BoB, Canara, BoI, UCO, IOB, IB, CBI, etc. are public authorities under §2(h). Private banks are NOT directly covered, but their RBI-regulator interaction IS — file RTI to RBI.

Where do I send the RTI to a public sector bank?

Each PSB has a Central Public Information Officer (CPIO) at head office, plus a CPIO at every Zonal/Regional Office. The bank's website lists them. Default: address it to the CPIO of the branch's controlling Regional Office.

What if it's a private bank like HDFC, ICICI?

RTI does not apply directly. File RTI to RBI's PIO asking for: (a) the bank's compliance status, (b) any complaints registered against it, (c) any inspection reports. Also use Banking Ombudsman scheme.

What is the RTI fee for banking matters?

Same as Central RTI Rules: Rs. 10 application fee; Rs. 2 per A4 page after first 20 pages. BPL exempt. Use our Fee Calculator.

Where does the IFSC data come from?
