Exam Revaluation RTI — revaluation, rechecking, marks (2026)
After CBSE v.
Why this RTI works
After CBSE v. Aditya Bandopadhyay (SC, 2011), evaluated answer-sheets are 'information' under §2(f). The candidate can demand the answer-sheet, mark-book extract and evaluator notes via RTI. Most boards moved to a formal reval/recheck/photocopy regime, but RTI remains the safety net for unjustified denials.
Legal framework
- RTI Act, 2005 §6, §7(1), §2(f).
- CBSE v. Aditya Bandopadhyay (SC, 2011) — evaluated answer-sheet is 'information'; disclosure to candidate is mandatory.
- ICAI v. Shaunak Satya (SC, 2011) — fiduciary defence does not apply to candidate's own record.
- Conducting body's own bye-laws on revaluation.

- Kendriya Vidyalaya v. CIC (Delhi HC, 2013) — Internal evaluation records disclosable.
Common mistakes

- Asking before the bye-law revaluation window opens.
- Forgetting to enclose original revaluation receipt.
